All of Us Research Program: Scheduling Feature

Problem Statement

The All of Us Research Program (AoU) is Vibrent Health’s biggest client. Vibrent is the Participant Technology Systems Center (PTSC) awardee, meaning we make all the recruitment, engagement, and retention tools for the program.

Using our content management system (CMS), clinics operating under AoU can build their own custom websites with their own forms, events, etc. in order to gain local participants in the program.

One issue was potential participants (prospects) still had to call a researcher to schedule any time of appointment if they wanted to participate in the program. Our team proposed adding a scheduling feature to our CMS so sites could easily add and customize scheduling capabilities to their websites.

Ideation

After meeting with stakeholders and the product owner, I researched scheduling best practices, and prioritized accessibility for the participant-facing front-end, as the AoU program’s users are extremely varied.

I also had to consider our CMS users for the backend, ensuring our feature was intuitive and easy to implement.

Final Product

Our final scheduling feature clearly shows the user where they are in the process of booking an appointment. The customization allows the site to determine what type of appointments they are offering, and which locations are accepting in-person visits.

The user is guided through a scheduling process by clicking on CTA that is customized by our backend CMS users. The backend also allows our CMS user to customize the image and text to give the front-end user context about what it means to schedule an appointment.
